Technical Information
Offered here is a 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet, a classic G-series 911 finished in factory Meteor Grey Metallic (Y7Z/961) over a black interior with a black convertible top. Showing 109,378 miles, this example is powered by its matching-numbers 3.2-liter air-cooled flat-six paired with Porsche’s 915 five-speed manual transmission.
Most importantly, the matching-numbers 3.2-liter engine has been comprehensively rebuilt and restored to like-new condition, brought back to factory clearance specifications, and fully resealed. The rebuild included new timing chains, piston rings, IMS, main and rod bearings, valve guides, valves, seals, and a three-angle valve job. Reground camshafts provide a little extra performance, while a Dansk muffler delivers a more sporting exhaust note. The stainless steel heat exchangers and muffler have also been polished to a beautiful finish. Photos documenting the rebuilt and restored engine process can be found toward the end of the gallery.
The 915 five-speed manual transmission has been serviced with fresh oil, new axle and input shaft seals, a new friction disc, clutch release bearing, release bearing fork, and release bearing fork shaft bushings. New shift coupler bushings, shifter bushings, and a new shifter knob further refresh the driving experience.
The suspension has also received considerable attention, including a front strut tower brace, new front stabilizer bar bushings, new ball joints, rear spring plate bushings, and new rear shocks.
The 3.2 Carrera represents one of the most celebrated evolutions of Porsche’s classic G-series 911, combining increased performance with the compact dimensions, air-cooled character, and mechanical involvement enthusiasts associate with the traditional 911.
Factory Meteor Grey Metallic gives this Cabriolet an understated and timeless appearance, complemented by its black convertible top. Inside, the black cabin features distinctive white-face gauges and light grey waffle-patterned cloth seat inserts. Additional updates include new seat control levers and a Pioneer AM/FM/CD/Bluetooth hands-free audio system with microphone.
With its matching-numbers rebuilt engine, serviced 915 five-speed transmission, refreshed suspension, factory Meteor Grey Metallic finish, and distinctive interior specification, this Carrera Cabriolet offers the unmistakable sound, steering feel, and mechanical involvement of a classic air-cooled 911 with the added enjoyment of open-top motoring.
